MartDan-ProfileAbout MartDan @martdan_nft

Having studied advanced mathematics and architecture, French artist MartDan started his professional life as a naval architect (sailing boats) after his studies.

In the ’80s he became interested in computers with the ZX81 and later the Amiga and Apple, and with the introduction of the first color Macintosh (MacII), he discovered the potential of this tool for the publishing industry. On top of that, he started a career in editing and illustration for printing houses and advertising agencies, while at the same time reinforcing his knowledge of database programming.

“Thanks to this tool, I was finally able to express what I had dreamed of and hadn’t been able to put on paper until then. I was very saddened to not have the talent of my colleagues who could draw what they imagined” says the French artist. Computers enabled him to fulfill these dreams, and since then he continues to create art in his spare time.

The artist, who also enjoys researching colors and shapes, and even released his “Abstract Research” collection in this way, is currently retired and continues to create digital art as his favorite hobby.

How would you describe your work?

My work is directly derived from the tools I use, which are essentially computer tools. I have two types of production, images and abstractions.

The images are often created from photos taken by myself or by my daughter who is a professional photographer. I start from these photos and I transform them according to my desires by using various computer tools until I arrive at the result that I had imagined at the beginning. It is the same process as a traditional artist who has other tools, such as brushes or a hammer and chisel, and who transforms the colors or the material to arrive at what he had imagined.

Abstractions are different in that they don’t try to represent reality or what could be reality, but just play with shapes and colors. In this field I was influenced during my studies by people like Fibonacci or Mandelbrot, of course this is due to my love for mathematics.

How did you get started with NFTs?

I discovered the NFTs by chance because I surf the internet a lot. Until then I had never imagined selling my work because I didn’t consider myself an artist. Even though I have sold quite a few paintings. I regularly printed and framed my creations to decorate my house, but every time friends came over, they wanted to buy them. So I would sell them for the price that the printing had cost me. That’s how I realized that my artwork appealed to more than just me. That’s what made me decide to get into NFTs when I discovered them.

How have NFTs helped you as a creator?

I wouldn’t say that it helped me, it simply allowed me to improve my retirement and especially to meet other artists with whom real bonds of friendship are being created. This last point alone makes me encourage all amateur artists, like me, to embark on this wonderful adventure.

What advice would you give to creators who are new to the NFT space?

The first advice I would give them is to be patient. They should not think that they will become rich overnight. They should know that promoting their NFTs will take a lot of time, but that’s how they will meet people who will make their lives better.

The second tip is this: Don’t listen to other people’s advice. Do what you like and have fun.

What has been the biggest challenge in your NFT journey so far?

The most important challenge, apart from being able to navigate the world of crypto-currencies, is to promote my NFTs. This takes time, even if it is often fun and allows to meet new people.

What has been the biggest challenge in your NFT journey so far?

I have to mention that in my last professional years, I was designing databases and precisely the user interface of them. I think the world of NFTs is still in its infancy. It is not yet ready to welcome the general public. So I think that the current platforms are still locked in schemes that are more suitable for geeks than for artists. It’s the whole way of thinking about this universe that will change in the next few years. But as I said before, we have to be patient.
